  1. I performed a speech and an acting piece last night. In the speech I did a speech in affirmation of legalizing marijuana.

Last night was intense: nerves were high and confidences was low. I had some difficulties last night with technology, which wasn't a surprise, but I pushed through as always. I was grateful that I knew my topic or I would had crashed and burned. Overall in congress, I think that everyone did pretty good although people didn't say their speech when they were supposed to and they didn't ask their questions. But those who did ask, asked very weak questions.

After congress, Febish and I had to perform our piece, "Hello Herman." I was really, really nervous when I went on. I thought that that time was better than anything thing we have done with this piece. Once I started saying my lines all the nerves went away-it was just me and Febish. After I was done with it, I got to watch the rest of them. I came in to watch during "The Accused" and I was sitting in the back. I couldn't really hear anything and Leandra's (most likely spelt her name wrong)back was towards the audience and the bowing wasn't what I thought they would have done. I expected something more than that. Actually, almost everyone were like that.

  2. Thursday Night Spotlight was quite an experience for me. I was not nervous about the crowd and all in all I had a fun time. I am quite ready for competition tomorrow. My scene is Where It Went in Almost, Maine by John Cariani and I am for sure that if we slow the pace down, we meaning Erykah and I, there is a good chance to grab a win. So with all of the information about what to do that I've gotten from coach and peers I am confident in myself and my partner and I have no nerves about performing tomorrow

  3. I was in the congressional debate part at the beginning of the Thursday night spotlight. the speech I wrote was not a bad speech. it had a lot of good information and claims in it. It was the way I presented it that needs work.
I am not going to the debate tomorrow but I know what i have to work on for the next competition. I need to partially memorize the speech so I don't lose my place. I tried to make eye contact with the audience but I would forget my place when I glanced back at it. Another thing I could do to prevent this is I could make the font bigger so I can read it easily. Using these things i believe my next performance will be a success.

  4. Last night was my first 'Thursday Night Spotlight' performance and I thought it went well. I feel less nervous about being in front of people and I'm glad to have had the experience. I worked with Michael on a piece from "The Dining Room," and it has been a roller coaster since day 1. Fortunately, we were able to work together and help each other progress as individual actors.

This night was a relief for me because we finally performed in front of an audience without interruption. I think, overall, we did a good job. We received feedback at the end that stated things that need to be changed in order to improve our scene, to the fullest, for competition. This makes me feel more prepared for what's coming tomorrow. And even though we did some things wrong, I still feel like most of the audience enjoyed it.

Tomorrow we will be going to Portland, TN to compete against other duet actors. I know we probably won't win, but I'm still looking forward to the experience and seeing how these things work (I've never done competition before). Hoping for the best.

  5. I preformed hello Herman with faith and I play Herman. Thursday night spotlight helped get us ready for competition.
I think the main reason was it helped us get the jitters out of not only me but all the actors and representatives who are doing congress as well. What I mean by this is most of the people were freaking out about preforming in front of people but by going on stage and seeing how the audiences perspective on congress and acting peace's it can help them see how much they have improved and can make them more relaxed.
with tomorrow being competition I beleave our school has a good chance to win and we are all looking forward to it. and lastly break a leg theater 3s, 4s, and congress.

    1. If you can perform in front of 30 people on a stage, then 3 people in a classroom should be a slice of pie.

  6. I performed " The Accused " with my partner LeOndra and I played Sarah Tobias. Last night was a lot of fun, but I was nervous and uneasy. When I started to perform I was nervous, but once I started to shake it off my performance got better. Last night really helped me, because I noticed what I could do better on and how to make words more powerful and meaningful. Something that I will change is working on certain parts of my scene that is really touching. Also, when I my partner is talking to me I will try and do different movements and make it less awkward. Another thing, I will walk on is taking breaks in between my lines to make tension. I think that if I pause, it will make my scene even more dramatic and people would really connect with us. A lot people have been through rape and I'm hoping that me playing Sarah will make people understand and connect with our scene. Tomorrow, i will master the things that need to be worked on and make our scene even more powerful.

  7. For Thursday Night Spotlight, I preformed “The Odd Couple” by Neil Simon with Jam. I played Florence who is very impulsive. Last night was a little terrifying, but it was also really fun. As soon as I got on stage, the adrenaline kicked in and all was good.

Thursday Night Spotlight made me realize that once you’re on stage, it’s not that scary. it’s really just the nerves before that leave you feeling uneasy. Towards the end, I forgot a line, but Jam and I improved it until we got back on track. Tomorrow remembering that line is something I could improve.

When the adrenaline kicked in, it made me louder, but I still wasnt loud enough. Tomorrow for competition I will try my best to make the 80% loudness to a 100%. By being a bit louder, fixing our intro, and remembering that line, our scene will be even better than before.

  8. I performed "Almost Maine" by John Cariani on Thursday night. I was nervous going onstage and seeing my family and friends, but my partner helped me through it.

I am not worried about my lines. Me and Frank have been over this scene a zillion times, we are our characters we even know each others character. I am thinking our choreography will not flow. I hope once we start it will come naturally like we rehearsed.

Since this is my first competition I am okay if we don't break. I am just going to make sure I slow down and do something with my hands a little more, when I am standing alone. I am ready for this. I am confident. Also I am praying for all of us. Lets go West Creek.

  9. I performed "To This Day" by Shane Koyczan. I was a bit nervous to be performing last in the line up, but once I stepped on stage I began to feel more comfortable. I hit the rhymes the way I wanted to and it felt satisfying to see the audience react.

More than anything, I'm worried about getting nervous and going too fast. I am going to be the only one from West Creek that will be in poetry, so it's a little nerve-wracking but I am confident I can pull it off.

My goal isn't necessarily to break, but to give a performance that will resonate with the judges and deliver myself as a powerful speaker. I'm going to make sure I hit as many of the embedded rhymes as I can while taking my time and letting my words sink in. We've got great actors and speakers at West Creek, so let's go give them all we've got. Much love, guys.

  10. I perform a piece called the accused I played as (Katherine Murffey ) and my partner was Alyssa Rangel. Performing for my first time at a spotlight was a very nervous experience. But I did enjoy it I was a little nervous at the same time excited. As soon as the stage hit everything just went away.
I did realize it’s very different when u act in front of a small crowd upclose then a big crowd in the theatre. I’m so used to everyone watching me far away to the point when the audience was so close through my confidence off. I don’t think anyone noticed it but i believe that from time to time I did forget a line and my partner did to and we just kept going .
Now I know that the size of the crowd doesn’t matter it’s what you give them and how you apply it to the performance. For my next performance I will improve on my direct eye contact and proper pronunciation of words. Also if I forget a line always improvise and stay in character .

  11. At the Thursday Night Spotlight, I gave two speeches: one in the negation of making Physician-Assisted Suicide Legal in all 50 States and another in affirmation of Supporting the Legalization of Marijuana in All 50 States.

I went into the staged debate beyond nervous, as you could tell with the first speech I gave. When I gave my first speech, I spoke in a very hushed tone and very quickly; because of that I often lost my spot on the paper and read a line ahead at times. Another problem was that I spoke quietly which resulted in Jam asking for me to speak up and even my mom told me after the debate that it was difficult to hear me.

In order to prepare for the debate tomorrow, I will read it multiple times tonight to attempt to remember some lines and be able to connect to the audience.

  12. I performed in a speech and acting piece last night. In the speech performance I did a speech in negation of legalizing marijuana.

I was very unprepared for this portion of the show. I needed to ask better questions and know more about people's speeches. I also feel as though I needed to prepare better for my own speech such as having more information and facts.

Because of these things I learned I am going to write more speeches and make sure they have more information. As well as listen to other people's speeches so I can ask questions to either help or hurt the speaker's position.
