Speech: Thanksgiving

Discuss Thankfulness in your life.

  1. I am thankful for so many things in my life. If I had to chalk it up then... I am solely thankful for our theatre program. I say that, because it did more than teach me how to act or direct. It did more than give me cool projects to work on after school.

If anything, it gave me an opportunity. To become a better person. To learn more about myself and how far my talents go. To honestly just wake up in the morning and realize that I am more than a jock or a christian. That I can put more effort into this and...actually be worth something. Anybody can be a football player. Anybody can be a good christian. But not everybody can act.

That is why I am thankful for our theatre program. I say all that to say this. My goal for this year is to give somebody else this feeling of acknowledgement. To give them a reason or opportunity that they just can't find in their normal lives.

  2. I never really think about my gratitude, until Coach gives us extra credit for it. But all joking aside, there are many things in my life that I am thankful for. To name a few people, I am thankful for my grandparents, my Aunt Jen, and my teachers. As for items I am grateful for, it would have to be clothes, my phone, home WiFi, a place to call home, and my education. But the one person I am most thankful for is my mom.

As I Said before, my mom is one of the people I am grateful for. She has worked so hard to be able to provide for my sister and I. I have seen her juggle three jobs in order to give us Christmas or Birthday presents. This year has been particularly had. Mom got laid off in February, could not find another job till June, then could only stay there for a month. My mother had to go back to diverging pizzas so that we could pay bills. But through all of this, she tried her best to make sure I had what I wanted. She tried to hide her stress and worry, as if she didn't want to worry me. She is completely selfless.

I hope that, as I go throughout my life, I can be as selfless as my mother. The women would jump through flaming hoops, just to save me from the pain. This is the kind of mother I hope to be someday. But, that is a while away, so for now I will settle on striving to be the best person I can be. I will try to help those around me, and if I am no help, then I will just be a supporting friend.

  3. In the spirit and season of Thanksgiving, I thought it would only be right to discuss what I'm thankful for after Thanksgiving day. Thankfulness to me is being appreciative of the things you have in life, even if you don't have all that you desire. Celebrating with extended family instead of in Clarksville with immediate family, gave me some insight on what matters most to me in life. Family.

This year I went to Augusta, Georgia for Thanksgiving and spent it at my Auntie Rachelle's house. It was held there because her and her husband just bought their first house together. The first half of Thanksgiving was a housewarming party and the second half was when we ate. In addition to seeing my Auntie Rachelle, I also saw my cousin, Brandi, who I haven't seen in almost 2 years. I got to meet her two boys and get to know them better. I also met my cousin Katrina and Brittini's babies as well, TJ and Prince. We woke up early this morning and went Black Friday shopping and then came back home to celebrate my Grandma's 80th birthday. Having a 5 day break from school and all the work that comes along with it was very therapeutic for me.

Sometimes in this thing we call life, we can easily get caught up in everything being so scripted and routine. We end up getting frustrated and fed up with things that aren't detrimental to our well being. Like not getting the newest IPhone or your parents getting you the wrong color in the shoes you wanted. When in reality, there's kids out there that would be happy to JUST get shoes. Society has shown us things we WANT in life, not what we need. So this thanksgiving I'm taking in to consideration the things I need. After all, humans only need 3 things to survive. Food, water, and shelter. OH! F.A.M.I.L.Y

  4. According to the dictionary, being thankful means to “expressing gratitude and relief”. But I believe that it’s more than that. I believe that being thankful of someone or something is like when your mom is exhausted from work, and all she wants to do is sleep but she can’t due to the messy house. She then yells at everyone about keeping it clean but no one listens, we roll our eyes, and continues to do what we were doing and at the end of the day everyone goes to bed mad because she does everything in the house and we, we do nothing. But the next time she comes home, she can go to bed because she wouldn’t have to yell at us for a messy house. It would already be clean so she doesn’t have to do anything because she has already done enough.

And with this in mind, the only person I am forever grateful to have in my life no matter way is my mom. She has done everything she could to help me get to where I am today. She has done so much already for my brother and I, and I have really taken her for granted but I know I shouldn’t have. She is my, I guess you could say, wonder woman.

As I grew up, I always heard “oh my goodness! You look just like your mom!” or “you sound just like your mother” and I was always in denial saying “no I don’t” or “wow, okay” like it was an insult but now I take pride in that. I take pride in being my mother’s child because I know that she would do anything for me, and I mean anything… it’s kind of weird, and I’m okay with it because she is my best friend and I know I would do the same thing for her.

  5. I am thankful for countless things in my life. It is hard to narrow it down into simple concepts. It is hard to put it into words. I am so thankful for so much in this world and explaining it would take too much time.

I am going to pick three main things: My family, my education and my mind. The first is family. Mine may be a little weird and a little broken but it is so amazing that I have so many people around me that support me through things and we are all there for each other. My second thing is my education. I spend a lot of time thinking about not wanting to do anything school related but in reality it is such a blessing. It is so cool that in our country it is required that you go through school and learn things that will push you to go on and work to make this country and possibly the world better. Lastly I am thankful for my mind. It is such an amazing thing not only to be able to have a place to store everything that you have learned and lived but also to be able to understand complex things.

In conclusion I will show more thanks to all things around me. I know I will not ever fully appreciate things the way they deserve to be appreciated but I will try to look at things from a stand point where I know what I have.
