  1. The song that I was assigned for the Lip Sync Show was Purple Rain by Prince. For this segment of the show it will be an ensemble containing the whole class.

The theme for the sketch will be unrequited love. The guy has a desire for a girl who doesn't feel the same way. The story is reversed when the girl that he was after realizes that he was the good guy in all of this. However, she is left feeling the pain that he felt when she finds that her best friend and the guy are a couple.

My role for this project is the director. I will be in charge of communicating to the class on how to convey a story within the span of a three minute song.

A challenge that might occur is having smooth transitions throughout the song. Having around twenty-two people on stage doing different things opens a door for miscommunication and frustration. Another challenge that might happen is that I am shadowing sound with Jam for the show. So having a balance with my working in the booth and having to direct the sketch will be a challenge on my part. I can assure you that I will try 100% to have an equal balance.

    2. I think you'll do just fine with both directing and shadowing sound with Jam!! You've always been very dependable, no matter what or how stressful the task.

  2. The song that I was assigned for the Lip Sync Show was Seven Spanish angels by Ray Charles & Willie Nelson. For this mini musical it will be my group and a few selected people.

The theme for the sketch is eternal love even after death. The guy is wanted by the rangers. He is with his girl. She knows the rangers wants him. The rangers are going to take him but not alive. The guy gets killed by the rangers. The girl loves him so much the girl picks up the empty gun and the rangers kill the girl.

My role for this project is an angels and co director. Me and Abby are in charge of communicating to our group and the other people about what the story is and how to act it out within a spand from 2 to 3 minutes.

A challenge that might occur is the trantions throughout the song. Another challenge would be getting everyone on stage at the right time and in the right positions. Another challenge would be making the chemistry between the two characters look real and not make us look like a bunch of high school students who have no idea what were doing.

  3. The song I am doing for the Lip Sync Show is Seven Spanish Angels by Ray Charles and Willie Nelson. This will include my group plus 10 people.

The theme is eternal love even after death. The lead male is wanted by the rangers and he is with his love. The rangers want to take him back to Texas but he wont let them take him back alive. He gets killed and his lover picks up the empty gun and tries to gets killed by the ranger too. In the end she gets killed too.

My role for this is the lead female and co director. Keyera and I are in charge of explaining the story from the song and trying to get that into a skit.

Something that i believe will be a challenge is putting a more common twist on this song. It'll be hard because it is a song from the 80's about something that happened in the late 1800's. I don't want to have the skit not correlate with the song.

    1. If you think about it, in the modern day version of Romeo and Juliet, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio was a story written in 1594-96 but was filmed in 1996. It contained the original dialogue however was claimed to be a "Hip modern version" The story is the same but instead it is two rival gangs. Or similar to Bonnie and Clyde there are ways to convey the same message of eternal love after death. Researching stories and creating a sketch inspired the research will be the best way to modernize the song. Also try to include the ideas of the members of your group, just because you are co-directing doesn't mean that you have to plan the whole skit. you are suppose to bounce ideas and be flexible with the story and movement.

  5. The song that me and my group which is Francis Nick and Indie is called Careless whisper. The sketch that we have is basically about don't take love for granted. So two characters love each other but have a hard time expressing it so they decide to switch and move on knowing they still love each other and come back together in end.

I am the girl who basically gets cheated on. I end up dancing with someone else and at the end Dance with my love who i wanted to dance with in the beginning. there will be dancing and sad parts and a happy ending.

The hard part I feel like would be the trying to be serious while dancing. And coming up with a routine. I feel like if we do a simple two step routine that will be way easier. Trying to encompass that the relationship was meant to be from the start I hope the audience will see.

  6. The song that my group chose was Let's Dance by David Bowie. The people in our group are Ayana Roit, Meghan Hook, and myself. Our idea is more of a comedic sketch. David Bowie is a dance master and has two apprentice dance fairies that make people dance horribly.

I am a dance fairy. My job is to prance around and make people dance horribly while David Bowie tries to keep the peace and make everything not so terrible. I'm almost kind of a "rival" of Ayana's dance fairy.

Challenges we're going to be facing are keeping the sketch kind of serious and not turning into a bumbling, laughing mess. Another problem is going to be making the sketch cover the entire song with horrible, and not so horrible dancing.

  8. My group was assigned, "Let's Dance," by David Bowie. In my group is Meagan Hook and Laurrie Sullivan. After realizing that our sketch was very similar to the idea that the Careless Whisper group had, we decided we needed to go a different route. We decided to change ours to be a more comedic sketch.

The theme of this sketch is to just have fun and dance. It is meant to be a sketch that will make the audience laugh and feel happy, because all the rest of the sketches for the 80's songs are a bit more on the gloomy side.

Laurrie and I will be David Bowie’s ditsy dance fairies. Lead by Meagan as David Bowie, we will be trying to guide the ensemble that is left on stage from Freefallin' to dance with us. Only problem is, the fairies are awful, horrible dancers, and Bowie has to try and fix their unintentional damage.

Challenges we will be facing will be keeping on task while trying to get the skit set up. Staying focused will be difficult because Meagan, Laurrie, and I are good friends outside of school and made stupid jokes about frivolous things every chance we get.

  9. The song my group will be creating a performance for is Let's Dance by David Bowie. Our sketch will consist of my group- Ayana Roit, Laurrie Sullivan, and myself- as well as the other people from the Free Falling sketch.

The theme of this sketch is to just dance, and to have fun. Our sketch is more of a comedy, contrasting to many of the other 80's sketches, which are mostly about romance or have a sad theme. The comedy sketch will let the audience have a breath of fresh air and be able to laugh and enjoy themselves. Our sketch is also a bit of a transition story between the Free Falling ensemble and the Careless Whisper sketch, allowing for the groups from Free Falling to start to dance for Careless Whisper's beginning.

My role in the sketch is to play David Bowie, one of the leads of the sketch. Ayana and Laurrie will be the two "dance fairies" that try to copy David Bowie's dance abilities, but fail miserably (and hilariously) at it. David Bowie has to correct them every time they goof up, and the audience will surely find the sketch comedic.

Challenges we will face are to stay on topic when discussing ideas and practicing. A challenge I will face personally is having to research David Bowie and trying to copy his image and mannerisms, as well as his dancing, in order to be a very recognizable and entertaining portrayal of him. I am also not the best dancer, so facing choreography and having to build confidence will have to be an obstacle I will face. Though, I will try to work out the kinks and face these challenges with the help of my group, and this sketch should be very successful.
