Discuss your performance at the recent THSSDL Tournament.
Be sure to include the data (Category/Rank per round/Final Place).
What did you discover through this process, and what can you do to improve your status next time?
In other words, how are you going to get to STATE?

  1. Going to the tournament, I was nervous going with the same piece because i didn't break. Then, on top of going to Dickson I had to have two pieces memorized one for DA and DI. Performing those two pieces wasn't has bad as I thought it was. Performing with Le'ondra was fun even though we haven't performed "The Accused" in a while, but overall we still did good. I believe we could have worked harder and placed better, but I'm still happy with the results. We placed 3rd place and it felt good to win that place. With my other piece, I performed "The Women of Lockerbie" and each rounder felt harder, even though it felt difficult I manged to get though it. After all the three rounds, I broke and I was so excited. I was really nervous going to finals and even though I was nervous it helped me. I think me being nervous helped me, because it matched my piece. After, we waited for awards and I got 2nd place and I was so proud of myself. Even better we all won 3rd place in "Team Sweepstakes" overall this whole competition was amazing. Something that i could do better is working a little hard with transitions.

    2. Your piece was bold, it had everyone in tears and it helped that you cried real tears. "The I cry you cry" effect was very real. You did a great job.

  2. This THSSDL competition was actually a good experience. Last one the people weren't nearly as nice so my interactions were much more pleasant. I expected to be met with the same kill or be killed mindset I was faced with at Portland. I could not have been more wrong the Brentwood kids were nice and so were the other kids that we spoke with. I guess the blood lust competition mindset is something they teach at saint cecilia's, haha. But I digress, I placed second in duet acting which is a big jump from my last placing of sixth. I discovered that if I am able to take myself seriously and not act and dress like such a bum I could actually have talent. I need to improve on my dress wear.

    1. You did the piece from your first competition? I am sure you two have improved a lot more since the first competition considering the big jump in placement.

  3. This last THSSDL competition was not that great of an experience. I wasn't really sure what prose was or how I was supposed to do it. It was something new and it was scary jumping into something last minute that I have never done before. I could've prepared a little more by researching how other people have done prose pieces, but I didn't because I thought I could just read it. I placed 6th in each round, which I am not at all upset about because these other kids performed it like they were from state, and my nerves got the best of me. I do not think prose is for me, and if I could redo that piece I would do it in DI. For next competition I will work on more characterization and memorization.

  4. Last week, I performed in the THSSDL competition at DHS. It was a very neat learning experience. I was able to observe people in HI, and learn what they did to make their piece great. It was a very different experience than observing DI the week before.

So, I placed 4th in all of my rooms. Thus, only beating one kid in round 3. I would've done better if I had timed myself and spent more time on it. I had it picked out, but I never really spent too much time on it. This was because I was very focused on my DI piece, "Superman Returns". Although, that is no excuse for not at least spending a day on it.

Taking all of this into account, I plan to search for a new piece, and utilize it in the February competition. I also plan on doubling with Febish in Duo Interp. We're not sure what piece we want to use, but we have many ideas going. One of them is using, "Hello Herman", once more. Lastly, I'm going to say this. I WILL take 1st in both. I am determined, and now I'm gonna show that. This is my chance to show everyone how good I really am, and I will NOT shy away from this opportunity.

  5. Last Saturday, I performed in the competition at Dickson county. It was a very nice learning experience. I was able to observe people in poetry, and learn what they did to make their piece great. It was a very different experience than doing DI the last competition I went to.

So, I placed 7th in all of my rooms. Meaning I didn't do well but according to all of the note from the judges, I did pretty well. I would've done better if I had spent more time on it. If had it picked out in the first place, but I would have gotten more time on it. This was because I was very focused on fablefest and getting the script done. yes, I know that it's no excuse for not working on it for at least 10 minutes.

With all of this in mind, I plan to take this to the next competition, work on this over the Christmas break to make it better, and at least break with it.

  7. My performance at the DICKSON county was very exciting and a little nervous because even though I wasn't really nervous the adrenaline starts to kick in. I could have doubled but I chose not to but maybe next time.

My category I performed in was Duet Acting. The 1st and 2nd round I ranked 1 and then fr the final round me and Alyssa where given a rank 6.I didn't really understand why we got a 6 on are last round maybe it was because I made eye contact with the audience.

As I look into the future for STATE Nationals I feel very confident but I want to make sure that I stay in my scene and not loose sight of my attitude in my voice. Also don't make much eye contact with the audience.

  8.       I went to competition with simmy, and we did duo-improve and our first round rank was 3rd our second was 2nd and our third was 6th for a final placing of 11th.
I've discovered that the rules have sense changed from the last time we checked the rules on thssdl.com so we had more time to prepare and that helped us dramatically. Simmy and I learned a great lesson that the luck of the judge is a real thing and it could make or break your competition.
and how we could get better at improve. is to use the time we have more wisely. then we need to make the improve make more since. and then I feel we have a higher chance of winning.
