Theatre 4: Lip Sync proposal

List 2 songs from the modern era that you would consider producing for a Lip Sync Sketch.
Briefly describe the  idea you would use to tell the story, and how that could work with our group.  How many people do you think it would require.

  1. The first song I was thinking we could do was 7 Years by Lukas Graham. I was thinking in the skit since the lyric kind of tells a story we could loosely follow them for the storyline. If we use this song it goes from different ages so there are many stories that could be used from different cuts or it could represent the growth of the main character. We could also split the story up between a few different scenes separated by lighting. It could include different families going through different struggles.

The second song I was thinking was When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars. This would definitely have to be a cliche romance skit. The lyrics are very clear that it's about a lost love, but I think we could maybe change the song. I'm not sure how we could do this, but I was thinking we could show a toxic relationship that ended with the girl or guy leaving and realizing that they have regrets and miss them once they found someone else. I think there are many ways we could adapt it, but generally it would be a romance based on the lyrics and a break up.

    1. Yes! these are not only good ballads, but they are good songs I feel like we could tell a good story with both songs but it would be hard to fit everybody into the storyline.

  2. The first song I would use is Unconditional by Katy Perry. The song is about her loving a man so I was thinking we could do a love story where a guy puts on a persona for a girl , but she falls in love with what is on the inside instead of the looks and he can reveal who he truly is. we could tell the story through different couples.

my next song is Alive by Sia unlike unconditional this song is about a person facing one of the hardest times in there life and being grateful to survive .For this song I was thinking a teen boy could reflect on his life and see all his peers around him finding lovers,(which would be played by other members in the class) and then he realizes in the end he is better off by himself and he can triumph through anything by himself and he doesn't need anyone to survive .

  3. This year I wanted to try and think of different ideas, storylines that we've never before. I'm tired of seeing the same old love stories, I believe there are different types of loves we just have to think.

With that being said The first song I selected like Labrea is When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars. However my idea is completely different, I completely disagree that it HAS to be a cliche romantic skit. In fact I was thinking that we could show a relationship between a mother and child. We would have a solo singer maybe looking back at their childhood. It would start with the son/daughter as a child who is very close to his/her mom, they are inseparable. We see the child grow up and grow distant, we could incorporate things that could come between the mother and child, such as a significant other, drugs, etc. We later find out since the adolescence of the child the mother was trying to tell him/her that she was ill. Throughout the skit the child is becoming more and more distant and unappreciative of the mother. Unfortunately the mother dies "dancing with another man" which is God and we see that lost unappreciated love Bruno is singing about.

The second song I have selected is Can You Stand the Rain by New Edition. We have a woman who's boyfriend was in a store and a robbery happened and her boyfriend is wrongly accused and is sent to jail. She believes him when he says he's innocent and sticks by his side while he is in jail until he is released. We see that while he is in jail possibly other men try to acquaintance themselves with her but she remains faithful. In the end the woman's boyfriend is released and he proposes because he sees that she can withstand the rain.

    1. I was trying to follow you on when I was your man, it would have to be a son since it says when I was your man. I like the concept only I feel our audience would see it weird since the song is addressing his lover.

  4. Before I start, I'd like to preface my ideas with a message of maturity. Regardless of a songs popular idea, we should all realize that a song is a song, and just because it's music video is out there... The song isn't inherently risque.

For my first song, I'd like to suggest Wrecking Ball, by Miley Cyrus. Bare with me, kids. Wrecking Ball is given a bad rep, but the song itself is an emotional memoir about trying so hard at love, and it not being enough. Throughout the song, Miley sings about how this person she loved was closed off, and all she wanted to do was to "...break your walls." She came in like a wrecking ball, and yet it was all in vain. It's not a happy song, by any means, but I think it would work. A possible skit would be (akin to that of Find Me Somebody to Love) a woman professing her love to a plethra of guys, and none of them panning out exactly like they wanted. We could go as far as to have three different stages of relationships. One where the bride is left at the altar, stood up at a first date, and broken up with (say, on a sofa.)

My second choice (and by far my favorite) is Since U Been Gone, by Kelly Clarkson. I absolutely love this song because it's about a woman that has gone through a terrible break up, and yet she's never felt more free. I think all the people in the audience would be able to relate to this (especially because as Coach himself has said, most everyone has loved someone at least once by this point.) Now, to turn it into a skit, I think we could do the stages of the breakup with different people. The initial fight, the heartbreak, and the "I don't need you 'cause I'm fabulous!" At the end, we can have all three (because they'll be played by different girls) come out at the end and belt it out.

    1. I love "Since U Been Gone", I think about pitch perfect every time I hear. Since we have a lot of girls maybe all of us can come at the end and sing the chorus together like strong independent females.

  5. My two music choices for Lip Sync skits are "I won't give up" by Jason Mraz, and "Stressed Out" by Twenty One Pilots. These are just two options I have a lot more songs if needed.

For "I Won't Give Up" I think this song is a strong ballad. It is well known with our generation and the past generation. My idea for the story was a cliche boy and girl are together then they have to separate because he is going the military. He wants her to give up on him, but she wanted to wait for him. The are multiple endings. One can be he comes back and she did wait for him(normal scenario). The second one is he dies and she grew old waiting for him, or he comes back but she didn't wait for him. There are many ways to interpret it. I think it can have up to 6 people.

For "Stressed Out" this is mostly about overcoming a difficult situation. My idea is the high school scene, there are lots of struggles and at this point you consider dropping out. We can have a lot of people as teachers, and stereotypical students. There was not a lot of thought in this I picked it cause I think it is a good not so depressing song I can relate to, because being a senior is not easy it is very stressful. “Wish we can turn back time, to the good old days when” Coach was teaching us how to build platforms. Time is moving so fast.

  6. One choice that I have is Part of Me by Katy Perry. We can do the scenario of you always have some childhood in you. We all have those moments where we feel our inner child come out. Whether this is watching a movie or finding an old cartoon. I was thinking that we could switch singers and have mini skits of growing up and having an inner child.

The other song I have is I am Always There by Lonestar. We all have lost someone whether they past or they have left us. No matter what we still have the feeling that they are here. Sometimes in our darkest when the light shines from no where some take it as a sign someone is watching over you. I think that we could have a lead singer and then someone acting out. We might no use everybody, but it is possible.
