  1. My partner, Rebecca, and I are doing a scene from The Odd Couple. The scene is act 2 scene 1. It is more commonly known as the "Break the Damn Cup " scene.

We chose to do this scene because we were recommended to do it by Coach. Upon further research we decided it was a fitting scene for the two of us. It also has its challenges for each of us.

I am struggling with character choices. I am not a talented person in accents. I also am very much so like the character I am portraying so differentiating between me and my character is a struggle I am going to overcome.

  2. My partner Alyna and I are performing a scene from Steel Magnolias. More specifically, a combination of two scenes in which Shelby has a seizure, and then tells M'Lynn she is pregnant.

We chose to perform this scene because of the powerful dramatic story, and we feel that we can expand and grow as actors because we are facing challenges such as having to use a southern accent and portraying a seizure, to name a few.

I personally struggle with the accent most; I need to work on perfecting it. I'm certain with enough practice, both Alyna and I can get the accents, the pacing and the characterization right.

  3. My partner is LeOndra, and were doing a scene from "The Accused". Our scene is where the attorney ( Katherine Murphy)comes to (Sara Tobias) a woman who is raped and talks about what happened that night she was rapped and what will happen on trial and what questions will be asked.
We chose to do this scene to test our acting ability. Picking this movie and scene will pushes us to try something more serious and pushes to act outside of a high school plays.
Things I will have to overcome is playing the part of "Sara" because she was gang raped and went through the struggle of those men. I have to feel how she felt, because none of those things never happened to me.I have to step in her shoes to really grasp her character.

  4. Amari and I will be performing a scene from the script," The Dining Room". I will be performing as Paul, the carpenter. The scene is called," Not a nail. A screw."

In this scene, there will be a ton of sexual innuendos that carries on for more than ninety percent of the scene. The real challenge is being able to portray this scene to an audience down stage, rather than an audience all around the stage. I say this, because this scene was last performed in the round.

I wanted to do this scene, because it feels like a good competition piece, especially since our focus would be the judges. My partner and I will be working on our choreography under the table, and also memorizing our lines. In this project, I'll be learning to characterize a man who stepped out of his father's career, and into his own. I feel like this was something I could relate to.

  6. My partner is faith putko, and we are do a scene from "Hello Herman". During the last couple days of his life. We are doing duo interpt because it is more of a test on our side so we need to have more than one character.

We chose this scene since it will truly test our skills as actors. like how I will have to teach myself to be more intense and act within a controversial topic.

Now my partner and I will need to step up our game and begin to work towards first place, so now we will continue to work to our goal.

  7. My partner is David Febish, and we are do a scene from "Hello Herman" during the last couple days of Herman's life. We are doing duo interpt because it is going to be a good challenge with us, so we need to have more than one character.

We chose this scene because it will test our skills as actors. Like how I have to teach myself how to be serious as if I'm interviewing someone.

Now Febish and I have to work as hard as we can and begin to work towards winning first place and now we going to continue to work to our goal and complete it.

  8. I am working with Frank for the duet acting project. We have chosen "Where it went", from "Almost, Maine" for our piece. I am really excited to work with Frank, because we both have the same experience.

“Where it went” is about a couple that went ice skating to repair their marriage, but a missing shoe might just tear them apart completely. My character is Marci she took her husband to Echo Pond for ice skating, once they finished she noticed she can not find her shoe. She ends up getting into a heated argument with her husband, and decides enough is enough and leaves.

There some interruptions me and Frank need to time right. My maine accent is a little choppy, I feel once I have all the lines memorized, I can then start working on the accent. We both have some lines memorized, we also have not figured out our stage directions. Once again when all the lines are settled in our minds, everything will flow with it.

  10. My partner for the duet acting project is Michael. Our scene is "Not A Nail. A Screw" from "The Dining Room." I look forward to working with Michael because I don't know him very well and I think it'll be beneficial to learn his acting style to help me become a better duet actor.

"Not A Nail. A Screw" is a scene between a carpenter (Paul) and a client (Margery). Her broken table leads the two into a sexually intimate conversation. This is a scene filled with many play-on words that leave it up to the audience to determine the true meaning.

I am interested in this piece because it seems like something fun and not too serious. My main goal is to block it in such a way that our backs are not towards the judges, but also that the rest of the audience can tell what is going on. This will be challenging to do, but it is definitely a learning experience.

  11. My partner for duet acting, is hailey.
We are doing a scene from "All about Eve"
A scene between Karen and Eve, hailey will be Karen and I will be Eve.

In our 10 minute scene, Eve tries to prove her point and Karen tries to convince her that it's not as bad as she thinks it is,
Yes, you will. You Theater people
always do. Nothing is forever in
the Theater. Love or hate, success
or failure - whatever it is, it's
here, it flares up and burns hot -
    and then it's gone.
I am looking forward to this scene with Hailey because we can really make it our own, characterization I feel like will be a lot of fun with our two new roles we have.
