  1. I performed in Too Good at Goodbyes by Sam Smith, Colder Weather by The Zac Brown Band, Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus, Since You've Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson, and Thriller by Micheal Jackson. I also performed a solo of Single Ladies by Beyonce. I won the award of best modern solo with Single Ladies.

I feel for the most part my performances throughout the songs were pretty good. I think my best performance was my solo and Too Good at Goodbyes. I felt really comfortable in Too Good at Goodbyes because we had practiced it a lot. As for the mashup, I think this was my weakest performance area. In Since You've Been Gone I think that I could've been much more prepared and felt very awkward while singing and running through the motions. I had missed the day where they actually went through it together in class, so I really only fully went through it about once before I had to do it during the show. I'm not good at one the spot improvisation and stuff like that so when I had to just freestyle and act like how Kelly Clarkson would, I felt like I just looked really awkward and a mess in general.

I think one of our biggest mistakes was time management. We spent a lot of time just discussing what songs we were going to do and through the whole process we wasted a looooot of time. It was super frustrating at how much time we wasted on talking about how we were wasting time. On Sunday, we should have had a real dress rehearsal where we through the whole show, but that is not what happened at all. We ended up basically programming the lights which should have been done earlier and I really think that was a big downfall for us. Also backstage was just really a mess. People need to have assigned props that only they use. So many people just took random props when they needed them and completely disregarded the fact that someone else is probably already using those props. It was a huge mess of people looking for something that someone else took, used, and then moved somewhere completly different.

  2. I performed in Grenade, Colder Weather, Since You've Been Gone, Girl On Fire solo, Thriller and the overall winner Perfect.

Since I was in a lot of sketches I did not give them all my complete focus. I would work on one song while thinking of another one. I know I did not perform my best. I was doing the most I just wanted to get through each song, without it being a mess. I can not remember what was going on in my head while onstage, it all went by so quickly. I was really happy when I heard we won something, because it leaves a mark for after we graduate.

What could I do differently would be more practice without stopping on the song, and when performing the song only think of that song. Also plan out costume changes, and pick costume that can easily get into. If props are needed make sure they are ready before you go onstage not while you are onstage.

  4. I performed in Wrecking Ball, Too Good At Goodbyes, Perfect, Bye Bye Bye(solo), and Summer of 69 (solo). Ontop of my performances I was also the Stage Manager for the show.

When you are stage manager its a job that really needs to be planned for and I got volunteered the weekend before. If I had more time I could have gotten a more organized crew to swap when
i need them to instead Of last minute trying to find people. I definitely recommend making a checklist because even those things changed the day of or the day before then it is easy to fill in and keep going. Also try and keep backstage as organized as possible.Have the big furniture lined up so that it can easily be taken out and swapped. Have a prop table on the side with all of the smaller props like flowers or feathers so that the performers know where they are and make sure that they get back to that spot. The biggest thing though is make sure that you know whats supposed to happen because if something gets changed last minute you need to think on the spot at the most efficient way to adjust your notes and keep everything running . When you bring the kids backstage make sure they are quiet so you can hear whats going on and the audience cant hear them. Headsets are really helpful in these that way you can communicate with the booth if you miss something or if there is an immediate change needing to be made.

Now that i have some experience is how backstage works in a show it peaks my interest for college theater that I like stage management. Now I am looking forward to supporting our cast in the play of footloose and trying to direct at the showcase. Not even about the Lip Syncs but a side note if you are in theater get involved as early as possible because as a senior now figuring out I like to stage manage i regret not taking a chance earlier and figuring it out then that way I could have had more experience under my belt rearing my last year, so get involved early.

  5. I performed in Too Good at Goodbyes, Perfect, Colder Weather, a small role in Thriller and was also in a part of the Mashup I directed which was Since You've Been Gone in Lip Syncs 7: Stairway to Heaven.

Overall I feel I performed decently for a 'Not so good Lip Syncs' show that we've had the past 4 years. The audience fed off of what ever character I played and was intrigued. My two best performances have to be in Too Good at Goodbyes directed by JaNelle and Perfect, which was the Overall winning Group Sketch and where Dontavis played my boyfriend, husband and father of my future children. Kendall directed Perfect and came up with the concept. I believe they way she saw it happening and made it look for the stage was absolutely adorable and why it compelled the audience best.

This was my fourth and final Lip Syncs of my entire Theatre career at West Creek high school and it was a bittersweet moment. There were a lot of things I wish I could do differently for next year and it kept hitting me that there is no next year. But even though there isn't one more year to change things, I can address what I need to do differently. Instead of trying to do everything as one man, it's okay to ask for help. Working on the mashup felt like I was doing the job alone and it made it THAT much harder to convey my concept to my actors. Being a Director CAN and WILL be challenging at times and I'm learning that right now as I direct our Spring musical, but it CAN be done. When it comes to directing any project, I wouldn't procrastinate. I say this about almost EVERYTHING, but it holds the most truth. Not being on top of ANYTHING can cost you greatly. Whether it be personally, academically, or extracurriculary. I've found myself always coming right back to this lesson. I don't believe this is a one and done lesson to learn, I believe it's lifelong because we're continuously growing and changing and sometimes, we need that friendly reminder.
