Theatre 2: The Planning Process

What has the process of creating a musical sketch taught you about theplanning and collaboration process?  How would you use this knowledge in future projects?  What would you do differently, and why?

  1. The process of creating a musical sketch taught that the planning and collaboration process is much more complex than I originally thought it'd be. I was preparing to have to give reasoning for why certain things should be done, but sometimes not everyone wants to listen to it. So say you think someone should drop something and then pick it up, you'd have to have a reason for it. Every single thing you do on that stage, there has to be a reason you're doing it. But sometimes even with actions and reasoning, someone might want to still do what they want and there isn't a way to convince them and they won't want to listen. So sometimes you should just put there idea in because you can pick your battles.

This knowledge can help me in future projects because it's a part of life. Not everyone is going to agree that the same thing should be done and sometimes you can compromise and sometimes that'll be hard to do. But picking your battles can go with just about every scenario, not just this one example.

Something differently I would do is not completely give up on my ideas before putting them out there just because I feel like they might get turned down. Sometimes I'll have an idea and then someone will tell me I should tell the group about it, but I'll feel like no one will probably like it, so I don't mention it to anyone else, and that's not going to get me anywhere.

    1. The process of creating a musical sketch taught me how challenging it can be to work in a group of diverse people with different ideas. I did however, find this process very fun. I am proud of everyone in my group and have complete faith in them. Considering we picked a song we all somewhat knew, we all had a natural idea to make the sketch about love.

I would say that the knowledge I gained from this project will help me in my future work for the simple fact I had to expand my mind to different ideas.

Somethings that I'd do differently would most likely be taking more time OUTSIDE of school to perfect not only my craft, but my also my groups performance as a whole. However my group has been pretty consistent and on top of everything since we started.

  2. The process of creating a musical sketch has proven to be challenging when being a part of a group that sometimes procrastinates more often than it should. there are days that result in us getting good amounts of work done but sometimes there were days that ended up with us not growing at all.

I would use this knowledge for any potential future group projects in order to be able to lead a group by giving input or suggestions on the next steps we should take in order to achieve our goals.

Something I would do differently is for my next group I would make someone responsible the leader of our group or give my ideas to someone who I would know would do something with my ideas.

  3. The process of us creating our musical sketch taught me that we all have to work together in order to get it done, not only get it done but get it done right. It takes a lot of collaboration and its not a long process but as long as you stick together and pull through you can get through it and get it done.
This knowledge can help me in future projects by in the beginning of a new project establish team work. Find what you need and don't mess around stick to what you need to get done.
Something differently I will do, would be picking people I wasn't so close with so that It wouldn't be as easy to get off task when something is due. Also, it will give u a chance to meet new people and you should put yourself out there more.

  4. Now that I am a theater 2 and I have been a part of the planning and collaboration process two times now, I have managed to learn so much. I've learned that creating a piece that is good enough to put on stage takes a lot of planning. Whether you're doing this planning on your own at home, or on the spot with your team members. I've learned that you need to speak your mind at all times, because you might just possibly add a certain type of flare to the performance that wasn't there before. in the future I would definitely try my hardest to use as much emotion as i possibly can. If I could change one thing it would be that we would start practicing our hardest sooner rather than later.

This is important because without the very detailed and in depth planning process we would be completely unprepared for this performance. Working together really helps us break out of our shell and allows to gain the confidence and creativity needed to perform well. Our song is one of the best songs in the showcase, and without the opportunity to plan and practice our piece we would let down the audience and most importantly, coach.

Now that I have gained the knowledge of the importance of collaboration and planning, I now know how to out on a good show and all of the key points and aspects that are needed to do this in the first place. I've also learned that teamwork and stepping out of your comfort zone are super important in creating a good show.

  5. The process of creating a musical sketch taught me the planning and the collaboration process is more difficult than I thought. In order for everything to work, especially if you're planning to work in a group, everybody in the has to be on the same page or the whole thing is going to be off. It also taught me that you always need a type of storyboard to follow so it can help guide and time your actions accurately.

This knowledge can help me in future projects by helping me stay nice and organized. It can even help me with the way on how I plan things. I can also use this knowledge to help me communicate and work well with others.

Something that I would do differently is plan and to brainstorm all my ideas first before just throwing out there. I would also plan all my actions first then do the lyrics last when planning a musical sketch. Last, I would do less talking about what do and more writing, putting it down on paper.

  6. What I learned about from the planning process is that it's actual quite hard to plan something that involves 6-7 different people. It's also hard to plan something that will be a crowd pleaser and and something the crowd can understand as well as we can. When one person is gone, we could've done a lot during that time. So that means we must inform the person the next day, and they might take a bit to process it. So it's complicated to keep everyone on track and connected.

I can use this knowledge for future group activities and events. I can make sure that when we plan something, it'll be something everyone will be able to understand and comprehend. It also helped with time management, due-dates are closer than we think. So it'll help me be time efficient as well.

Something I'd do differently would be putting more ideas out there and give our group more options to work with rather then give one option and find a way to work with it. I would also try to put more effort into helping them team and informing them, instead of sitting back and just staying in my own bubble and doing what I have to do and then calling it done. I would put myself out there more and try harder.

  7. The process that we took to make our performance were a few key details that could carry on with us for the rest of our life. While working on our performance we as a group developed listening and team building. We all had to work together and come up with a sketch plan and make sure everything was in tack and on the same page. We also worked together as to making sure our timing is perfect and making sure we stay on the right time place.
Having these skills could later help us on any future projects because we would know what to look for when working with a group. We would automatically know what steps we have to go through in order to get to our checkpoint.
I would most definitely work better on my timing with our project. We had Five weeks to create a piece and still didn't have a good performance. Making sure that we are using our time perfectly. I would also sketch out my plan on paper first , therefore we could get an image and have our ideas written down instead of just throwing things out.

  8. The process of creating a musical sketch was a lot more hectic than expected. We started of very confident and had an okay-ish idea then as time went on we started playing around with ideas then after a while it got worse and we got distracted. Then when we got onstage we looked like clowns because no one knew what to do.

The knowledge I have now is that if we have time to do something, we should do it instead of getting distracted and playing around. We also need to work together because at the beginning there was tension between a lot of us and it affected our outcome.

Something I would do differently next time is not contribute to the messing around and try and guide my group in the right direction. I also would speak up more if I knew something was wrong. Finally, I would also try to come up with better ideas instead of sticking to the original and trying to go off of that.

  9. The process of creating a musical sketch taught me about the planning and collaboration process(s). It taught me the planning of creating a musical sketch by how many steps I should calculate into it. If you break everything down like we did in the story board, everything becomes more clear and open for everyone. The story board helped managed and learn our different ques and time management. With the collaboration process, you have to make sure everyone is listening the first time you go over things or change anything. Otherwise people can tune you out and will be confused later on. It's better to get everyone on the same page from the start whether it's their part or not.

I would use this knowledge for future projects by making and printing out tables like the storyboard. I would make sure we lay out the actions with the lyrics then put the time in. That way when everyone is on stage, we aren't confused and thinking 'what do we do'. We wouldn't waste time being confused with the skills we all have now.

I would definitely try to be more involved next time. I feel like this lip sync show, my group wasn't at our best and could definitely do better.I don't believe I worked as hard as I could have and just went easy. We had the chance to make something great but I think our piece we left it at an 'okay' stage; and went on with it because we didn't want to work.

  10. I learned form this experience that you have to cooperate with people that you may not like. There may be things you won't agree with but you have to just roll with it. There are things that everyone agrees with.

Not everyone will be cooperative. That's part of life, there are things that won't get your way. Knowledge that can help in the future is patience. There are things and people you have to be patient. Work through the problem instead of around it.

I ave really learned to be patient and keep your head up. There are good ideas but there better ideas. There will be places where you may not feel important. I'd say to keep your head up. You may get your ideas shot down. It doesn't mean the idea is bad, there is just something better.I would use this a lot, keep my head up, and keep shooting out ideas.

  11. During the past few weeks of trying to create a mini musical sketch it has taught me overall how much harder it is to do than originally imagined. The collaboration process is extremely important and crucial to the betterment of the piece. Planning out what you are going to do is based a lot on the collaboration of everyone in your group because you don't want just one person trying to do everything by themselves since you want to be able to grow better ideas. Also having to plan out the sound and movement.

I would definitely use this knowledge in the future with that you need to be able to work with people. I will say ideas that I have in order to grow on a topic or an idea and to have the environment be comfortable enough for other people to share as well. Be able to compromise on some things and work together.

I would stay more on task and voice my ideas in the beginning. I would take responsibility in my group and not be afraid to get people on task or fix mistakes. Just be a better leader and a more well rounded addition to the group.

  12. It taught me that the process of making it have to do listening more to the song and making it seem understandable and meaningful. Also it taught me the meaning of communication and how you need to share your ideas out there. Also writing things down and having it on paper than on the phone or writing it down.

I would use the knowledge give it to other people or instead of that make sure to think audience wise and not so much as the group understands so it makes sense, since we were not using words and also people cant hit the pause button and stop and ask what happened here or there.

I would use the time given more wisely and try to help groups members in the idea process step to get an better production than just do what there idea and that's it.

  13. In the smallest way I could say this: I'm not sure if there was much that I would change. However, if I had to pick one thing, it would be the synergy between myself and my group. I could have been a better team member. I wasn't very co-operative with what my group wanted to do and I didn't put in a whole lot of time after school to work on the production. I caused my team a lot of unneeded stress. I would be more understanding and easier to work with if I could go and do it over.
