Theatre 3: The Planning Process

What has the process of creating a musical sketch taught you about theplanning and collaboration process?  How would you use this knowledge in future projects?  What would you do differently, and why?

  1. Something I learned from the process is that sometimes you need to just start back over. It's ok to realize something isn't going the way you wanted it to, so it needs to be redone. But that doesn't mean you should give up on it altogether. Just try to start over if you have time to try to make it better.

This knowledge will help me in future projects because I won't feel so stuck knowing that there could still be time to start fresh on the project. You don't have to commit to that one idea and go through with it if it isn't going well. Just start fresh.

Something I would do differently is put my name on the board. When we voted, I put everyone's name on the board except mine because I felt no one would vote for it. I'm extremely pessimistic when it comes to myself and my ideas because it's my mindset and I need to hurry up and figure out ways to change it.

    1. It's good to restart an idea so that you don't have to go with an idea that you don't like. That's something good to take away from this.

    2. I think we all benefited from restarting and not being set in old ideas.

  3. This process has taught me how to work with people that have different ideas and taking their advise and suggestions and applying them to my idea. It has also taught me that not all ideas are good ones, or they won't work. Another thing I learned is that it's okay to restart. Restarting and coming up with with a different idea can better your song in many ways.

For future projects I will take the process more slowly and think of actions before I add any music. I will also take in that it's okay to restart ideas and take suggestions from your peers to make your show better and presentable on stage. I will also give others my view on how I think their songs would be better on stage.

Something I would do differently is have an idea for a song first and then choose a song. Also writing down specific actions that I want in my story then writing them down. Also using the advice given to me by my peers and helping them with their song ideas as well.

    1. I also believe this skill is extremely beneficial because not everything has to be one specific way. You can change it up a bit and combine stuff to make the original project even better.

  4. the process has tough me that no matter the song you still have to have a story. the song is an extra that if you put the story on stage it will still make sense without the song. you also have to keep in mind the people you have for that story and use your brain to come up with creative ideas not just something that everyone will think of. you want to be different and stand out. The song is just to keep you on time don't worry about the song until the story is completely planned out.

i would use the knowledge for when I have to direct a play as a student director. Even if I used it for something like competitions i need to plan out how to characterize and stuff like that. when you think of what how this will help you will have this to go back to and not only appreciate thinking deep about it but giving you a clear mind about it.

I would put in effort because my life was going down hill. I didn't want to come to school or even wake up. which quickly affected my grades then my GPA then confidence. If i just put life aside for a little bit and worry about passing my classes at lease then of course i would have put on a hella good show. I just need to focus more on whats happening at one time rather than whats happening around me.

    1. Sometimes the best thing you can do when things seem out of control is to grab onto something you can control. Let the other things happen as they will. Control what you can control, and you will find peace and strength in that success.
