Theatre 2: Project Reflection

Discuss the Frame Project:
How did it come out?
What are the steps you took in creating your finished project?
Which step(s) challenged you the most?
What did you do to get through the challenge?
How can you improve your performance next time?

  1. My project frame turned out strong and sturdy. The steps I used to build my frame, was measure, mark, cut, pilot holes, and screw it all together. Although I put the base together before I put the flooring down. Really the only thing that challenged me the most was cutting the wood, i needed improve meant on that skill. I got help and learned to always hold it to the bar. Also I could improve on cutting straight lines.

    1. I feel the exact same way with improving on cutting straight lines maybe next time we can help each other.

  2. I feel my project came out great because, all my wood was cut evenly and also everything was flush. In order to have everything right before drilling I would measure the wood once again just to make sure that they're correct. Then I would pre-drill my pilot holes and put the screws in just to make life easier. Once I started drilling I noticed how difficult it was to drill from the side. So i stood my wood up and drilled from above, it was much easier to push down on the screw then to push down to the side. I can improve my performance next time by making sure I drill pushing down instead of pushing to the side.

    1. That's something I forgot to mention! I too found out the standing above the screw is more effective than from the side because of all the body weight over it. I wish I would have done that sooner, I feel like my project would have been finished a lot sooner.

  3. My frame came out ok. It wasnt the best. I was off on one of the measurements. But only on one side. And that was because of the way i cut it.
Found left over lumber, measured it to see if it was long enough to cut all the pieces out of it, marked it down to where i needed all my measurements then made sure they was all good. I marked down the two 9" then the two 12" then i cut the wood, made sure they was all the same size one wasnt so i had to go back and re cut it. Which somehow i still didnt manage to get it exact right.
The most challenging was trying to get all the wood even and for all of it to line up. Even though its not that hard it was challenging.
I lined the two pieces of wood together marked the one that didnt match and re cut it to match the other one
Make sure all the wood is even

  4. Surprisingly, my box ended up being pretty durable. I never thought that I would ever be able to build anything remotely stable, seeing as I am one of the most unstable beings on the planet. I first collected my lumber, and obviously I lunged for the longest piece first to ensure that I had enough. Then, I measured and marked the wood so that I would have two 9 inch pieces and two 12 inch pieces. I went to cut my wood, but I did not do so hot at that point; however, Coach Silvers corrected me and I was able to successfully saw the pieces all the way through. After all that was done, it was time to screw in the pieces. This was the most challenging part for me because I found it difficult to keep the wood flush while drilling in screw. With some help of my peers, I learned that I had to put the screw in a little beforehand so that it would already be in place when I was ready to drill it in the entire way. This prevented me from having to balance the wood, the screw, and the drill on top of each other like a circus act. Finally, coach taught us how to use a chalk line (which I thought was pretty cool!) and then he made us do it ourselves to split the plywood into 1 foot but 1 foot squares. We then were able to use that plywood to attach it to the base of our project. Then. BOOM! We independently built our own little boxes. I can utilize everything I learned along the way to improve whatever project we have next. I will even go after school to make sure that I can effectively use power tools with confidence so there's never any hesitation and work gets done in amble time with results that are sure to satisfy any requirements.

  5. My box ended up being very decent. It was very hard to screw the screws in without stripping them. I apparently didn't cut the wood right so I'll have to work on that. To make my box I measured and cut the wood, made the pieces flush, and screwed them together.

  6. My frame came out great. the steps that I took was first to measure, second to cut third pilot, fourth to drill in the screws to put it all together. The steps that challenged me the most was trying to drill in the screws into the wood to put the box together. The reason why I said that is because the wood kept moving and it wouldn't stay in place to were I wanted to put it. What I got through the challenge was that there was another the way to put in the screws that coach taught us, and that way was pretty easy. What I can improve on is drilling, I think that when there is after school I could practice drilling in screws and taking the out.

  7. My frame turned out sturdy and flush. The steps I took to create my box were measuring and cutting my pieces of wood according to the instructions. I then cut my wood and set my box up to drill the pilot holes then held it flush to drill in the screws. I then observed how to measure and cut plywood to fit my box frame then I measured my own piece of plywood with the chalk line then cut it with the chop saw. I feel as though what held my performance back was not paying attention to measurements and having to re measure my marks. I checked the instructions given to ensure my measurements were correct. When it comes time for me to measure something again I will efficiently and correctly measure said object.

    1. I hope you could teach me how to measure and cut the plywood. Also i really appreciate you helping me with my project. I am beyond grateful. Thank you so much.

  8. My project came out pretty good. It took me a little longer than other people to finish. Mostly because i was scared to cut my wood, but nonetheless I grew some confidence and I cut it by myself. I was sure to listen to the tips coach gave to the previous people cutting their wood. The drilling holes isn't where I was stuck it was screwing in the screw. I was pushing hard enough and i kept having to take the screw out and put it back in, but I took my time and worked at the pace I wanted to work and I was satisfied with my final project.

  9. My box came out good, but I messed up on the measurements and it was off by a little bit. last Tuesday I was absent and had to catch up with everyone; so I quickly measured and cut my wood on Wednesday. On Thursday I screwed my pieces together into a box which I had to make. Later that afternoon I put a piece of plywood on my box and tried to make it flushed. Friday i turned in my box and coach silvers measured my box and the measurements was a little off but he said I did good.

The biggest challenges I faced was catching up with others and the measuring was hard for me to do. I asked matthew to help me and he did, he helped me get lumber for my box and helped me measure my lumber. The thing i need to improve on is for one i can’t miss a school day during a project and I also need to take my time and not rushing through the measuring process.
