Theatre 2: Stage Production

Discuss your role is the creation of the Choir Risers.  What are 2 things that you improved at, and one thing you want to improve at?

  1. My role in building the choir risers was painting the risers. Somethings I improved on was thinking ahead and figuring out what we need to do next. Another thing I improved in was measuring and marking the right measurements on the wood. Something I could improve on is cutting the wood. I was a little scared to cut and I still am, but I want to get over that fear.

    1. I also improved on thinking ahead. I think cutting the wood is scary for most people but the fact you want to get over that fear is amazing.

  2. I improved at drilling in screws. I also improved on measuring. I need to improve on cutting like corners and like at an angle.

  3. I worked on Wednesday and Friday helping build the risers. I painted the risers and helped move them and place them into the choir/orchestra room which was not easy, I almost died, and Michael screamed like a girl. I improved at being patient with my team and measuring. I need to improve on not getting paint on the expensive red curtains because I might die if I do ever again not that I did I have no idea what you're talking about.

    1. I worked on Wednesday and Friday as well and I think we got a lot done one those two days of working together and coming together as a group of workers to accomplish our project.

    2. I was also a person that worked on Wednesday and Friday, and i think we also accomplished a lot during the to days. I didnt scream like a girl by the way. I have a perfectly manly scream.

    1. I wasn't good at measuring either and thank you for saving our lives when we were moving the risers!

    2. I feel the same way with improving on the drilling and the measuring maybe next time we can help each other with the measuring.

  5. I was builder. i got better at cutting and drilling. The one thing i want to improve on is not being off topic

  6. My role on the creation of the choir risers was helping Matthew and Noah put in screws in the flooring and the assembly of the floor joist. The 2 things I improved on was cutting wood with a saw by learning how to turn, tilt, and even rotating it; the other thing I have improved on was putting in screws into the wood. The thing I want to improve on is my quickness on how fast I could be while piloting into the wood for the screws.

    1. I agree with you on the improving on quickness. Hopefully during future projects we could get more done in class with the limited time we do have.

  7. My role in the risers was that I helped put together some of the 12 foot pieces and also I helped put the tongue and groove plywood onto the decks. Since I am in construction I already came in knowing about drilling and making sure I wasn't stripping the screw.
I feel like I improved at making sure things were flush before I drilled the screw in. Also I improved at communicating with others whenever I was in charge of leading a team I was making sure everyone was good and even though we did mess up on it not being flush, we learned from it and now we can use that knowledge for future projects.
Now I really want to improve drilling on the plywood and making sure the screw hits the floor joist and doesn't go straight through the plywood. In the future I can use all my knowledge from this project to help others with doing a project. I also could use the knowledge to get more work done with the little time we have in class.

    1. I also need to improve my drilling skills too, maybe we can help each other on the next project that we do that deals with building a object.

  8. The two things that I can improve on is trying to learn more about the chop saw and how to cut wood. Another thing that I want to improve on is how to drill in the nails into the wood.

The reason on why I say that is because as I was doing the chop saw I was nervous that I was going to mess up on some thing and cut something wrong. With the drills I thought that it was going to be easy but the first time I did it it was hard because my force on the drill wasn't enough for so I have to put a lot of force in order to drill the nail in.
As of right know I think I am Pretty good at using the chop saw and the drill and hope to use it again for another project.

    1. I feel you, girl. I can't push in the screws worth of ****. I have to apply almost all of my body mass into a tiny freaking screw for it to even move. lol

  9. My role was to hold the wood together so the can pilot holes and drill the nails in. Something I improved on was drilling, I also improved on measuring, before i came into this class I was not all that good at measuring. Something I improved on is communication with my team

    1. I really didn't get to measure enough, so maybe we can work on that together. Also I agree with you on communicating as a team.

  10. My role in building the Choir Risers was putting the tongue and grove flooring in, painting the risers, help build the base.
Two things I would like to improve more on is getting more time hands on cutting the wood, and measuring the wood, so that its precised.
One thing I improved on was learning how to put the floor in, and letting it be flushed. I've never help put in flooring and hands on using the drill.

  11. My role in building the choir risers was pretty much done a little bit of everything. I helped get the right pieces for the wood ( except for that one time), helped screw the wood together, helped paint the wood, move the wood, and making sure that everyone else is in a good mood ( most of the time). Something I can improve on is not screaming at all because I'm tired of talking about my manly scream. Another thing I can improve on is my common sense because during after school hours just hit me in the face and made me have a lot of brain farts.

  12. During the time we spent planning and building the choir risers, I played small roles here and there. Coach taught us numerous things to ensure that the job got done, such as: cutting wood, drilling pilot holes, and screwing in screws. I implemented all of those skills he taught us to assist in the making of the risers. I also played a part in after school construction, to paint, and, to be honest, that was my favorite part! As far as things that I improved at, I'd say I improved at everything because, when starting from zero, there's only one way to go and that is forward. What I feel like I should improve on more is lining up my pilot holes correctly because I kind of suck at that.

My role in all of this is important and significant to me because there are many instances where I may have to do something similar. You never know when a circumstance could arise in which your skills may be applicable. Think about it. Someone is struggling to build a little doggie house for their doggie and they are all like, “OMG! I don’t know where to begin!”, then you swoop in to save the day and BAM! You just helped some poor soul make their dog a doggie house and maybe even taught them some things along the way. Now they can share their knowledge with the world just as you did!

Now that I have learned all of this, I can find a way to apply myself in real world situations. Since my mom works in construction, I get to help her paint from time to time. Getting more experience from after school work will end up helping me in the long run. Coach even taught me a trick to cover up drill holes. The fact that I now know how to do any construction whatsoever still befuddles me. Now, I am not a COMPLETE pile of trash...

    1. I also contributed during after school painting with you and found it to be very fun, in fact I found the teamwork so enjoyable that I don't even mind I that I got paint on my sweater.

  13. So we had to build them risers for choir. My role in building the risers was cutting and screwing the wood. first i had to pilot the holes and make sure we flush the wood together and then put in the screws.
So after we screw in all the screws we had to make sure we didn't make any mistakes on building it and then we had to put it all together and paint it.I have improved on screwing and not striping the screw.
now the one thing i can improve on is actually putting it together and seeing it all come together. I also can improve on knowing different types of wood and sizes.

  14. I helped paint and helped chopped the floor joist and screw the plywood. two things I improved on was understanding the fundamentals on building another thing i improved on was getting used to cut and drill. I want to improve on becoming a Better builder in general

  15. During the process of constructing the choir risers I utilized the skills that Coach taught us along the building of the risers and after school such as: measuring and cutting the floor joists and plywood, drilling pilot holes, screwing screws into numerous pieces of the risers, painting. I also guided some of my classmates who were having trouble with those skills when I could.

I improved greatly at screwing the screws in because at the start of the project I wasn't putting enough force behind the drill, but now I have little trouble with it. Because I took into the account the tips I was directly given and overheard when Coach was helping others I improved on this skill much quicker than I thought I would. I also observed others when they were completing this task to further improve my technique. I also improved at taking directions. For example when we were painting after school Coach pointed out that I should start painting farthest away from me so I don't get paint on my clothes. It took me a few trys to take in the information , but it finally stuck with me.

One thing that I'm very hopeful to improve on is problem solving. I'd like to be able to solve at least one small set back without calling for Coach's help using the skills I have acquired. I want to improve upon this so I can save time on future projects and assist my peers in doing so.
