Theatre 4: Mini Musical

Discuss your experience in the Mini-Musical sketch you produced:
What song?
How do you feel you performed as a Writer/Director? Why?
How did the group perform? Why?
What challenges did you and your group have to overcome?

What would you do differently next time?

  1. The song that I had was "Photograph" by Nickelback.

I feel that I could have been more deliberate with moving the tassel over so show that he graduated in our minds. So many people came up to me and said that they thought that I had messed up with the tassel.

I feel that as a whole we did great in that sketch. The audience understood the story. Many people said that I turned a bad song into a great sketch. Which is awesome to hear.

Challenges that I faced was conveying the message and using the projector. I made the slideshow on Monday and did not finish until midnight. moments before we were suppose to go on I was freaking out because the movie was not pulling up but Lane fixed that.

Something that I would do differently was make that slideshow earlier so we could have rehearsed with it longer and time it a little better.

  3. I produced How to Save a Life.

I think I could have done better and trying to make time for us to rehearse. We only rehearsed it maybe three times. But I think I used the time we did have wisely. I listened to the feedback of my classmates in order to make the the sketch better.

I personally think that when you get on the stage and your adrenaline is pumping you as well as the others on stage can feed off of that energy. That is exactly what happened on stage, which led to the end product being very good.

One thing i would do next time is maybe think of a more creative way to show the emotions I was trying to portray. i.e. Maybe instead of Brianna sitting on the railing, she could possibly use the catwalk in some way shape or form.

    1. I agree the crowd reacting was everything and I feel made the show better.

  4. I felt I did pretty good as a director, considering we only had time to look at mine twice. I used the time I had to teach my classmates what I needed from them, and they adapted pretty quickly to what I asked for. For example, I told Larayza 30 minutes prior to show time that I needed her to appear as a nervous cop. Sure enough, she delivered perfectly. The same goes for Lane and Bri.

As a group, I felt that we did wonderful. We delivered a heart-crushing performance that everybody loved. We created a memory that everybody is going to look back on whenever they hear a sad song.

Next time? I'm a senior, so I know that this was my last time doing something that much fun on that stage. Although, theoretically, I would change the theme. I feel like, if we have a more vague theme, then that would allow a more variety of content. I received a lot of feedback that the show was way too repetitive. Not as much as the kids, but the some adults felt this way. So next time? Maybe a Disney theme? I don't know.

  5. My song was Ben by Michael Jackson. As a writer, I feel that I underperformed, my story line was very generic and one that was basically constructed to meet the requirements. I needed to focus more on character development in under 3 minutes. As a director, I felt more comfortable and felt I did a better job. The group understood what I was wanting for the most part. The group performed great, they even improvised in areas that needed help. WE had to overcome the challenge of making the plot easy to understand and not basic, I believe the end product was better than the development stage but not by much.

    1. I think yours was good, considering what you were given. Nobody had the time outside of school to buy some locket that came in two. We improvised, and it turned out better than it would've been if we never looked at it more than once.
