Theatre 2: Looking at Myself

Discuss something you learned while watching yourself perform on your Webcam.
What stood out the most?  What can you improve? How can you use the video to improve?

  1. When watching myself perform I noticed the comfortableness I have while presenting. I could see that I was focused and wasn't messing up as much. I also noticed that that I would talk to fast or talk to slow. SO I would need to work on my speed.
I need to work on my speed because I should be more calmer and not trying to rush through the video to get it done.
I can improve from learning to how to present a curtain speech and showing that I can have confidence.

  2. When watching myself perform I learned how much it really helps to take a video of yourself in preparation for the actual thing. It greatly benefits you to see where you can slow down or speed up and allows you to see what you need to fix.
What stood out the most to me is that I move around too much and that I stutter. It is a nervous tick that happens when I really have nothing to be nervous about. When I recorded myself I realized that I was talking really fast and that I needed to enunciate my words much more. I wouldn't stop or pause where I needed and I couldn't understand what I was saying at times. Also me moving around so much was distracting.
I can improve definitively on slowing down and breathing. The purpose of a curtain speech is to introduce and welcome the audience so being on edge wouldn't do justice as to why you are saying it.
Using the video to improve I can see where pauses are needed and where I can add appropriate movement. I can hear what I wrote and if it doesn't sound right I can edit it as necessary. Also seeing how long my speech is and where I can add or take away.

  3. When watching myself I saw how beneficial it was to record yourself while trying to perform something. I could see little things here and there that I could fix. I could see myself like move a little too much or talk a little too fast on video.
I can improve on not being so fidgety and take my time while delivering my speech.
I could use the video to improve by seeing what I can do better and how I can deliver my speech up to expectation.

  4. When I watch myself preform I see that im always wobbling, and that I cant stand still.I also see that I stutter out words rather than saying them with confidence. I could improve by not talking so fast and stop moving around so much.

  5. I noticed that I need to look at the camera because it very obvious when your not, do I little bit more moving around, and also could say my words more clearly. The camera you can see when your not looking directly at because it someone face where you can look between their eyes and it looks like your looking at them, I say more moving because I looked like a stone pillar and isn't moving like I thought i was so more movement and looking away from the camera for a second to give effect of speaking to an audience. I say not looking at the camera stood out the most to me because it not something you can just blow off, I can improve me standing like a pillar more and moving, I use to see all the mistakes that I wouldnt think I did.

  6. Now that I have recorded myself on the webcam and re watched the video there are many things that stood out to me. One thing that stood out for me would be how it feels to be on stage. and when you think you did well and you get to watch it for yourself it sounds boring and rehearsed. One thing that I wish I did better would be that I wish I talked a little slower so that I would reach the two minute mark. I can use the video to improve my performance because it allows me to see everything I did correctly and things I did incorrectly. And this way I can make sure to not make those same mistakes that I did during the rehearsal performance.

  7. I noticed when I was performing I would look into the camera and make awkward eye contact with myself and then remember what I was doing. There would also be awkward silence when I would forget what I was saying. I said "um" multiple times and I started stuttering on easy words because I was alone and I didn't really have anyone to impress but me. When i did remember what I was saying I would talk incredibly fast and then slow down when I was forgetting. I could improve on a lot of things but mainly my pacing.

  8. When watching myself perform on the webcam I learned that I stumbled on most of my words and there was a lot of pauses in the middle of my curtain speech where I had to take a moment and think about what I was going to say next. What really stood out to me the most is that I said the word "um" a lot, basically after every sentence I finished. I can most definitely improve on picking a better word choice, using words other than "um" and putting more life and gestures into my speech rather than just standing still and sounding like a robot that's just repeating words that it was programmed to say. I can use the video to help me improve by going back and looking at the parts where I pause and stumble a lot at. Also the video can help me improve by helping me spot out some mistakes the audience would've caught that I wouldn't have.

  9. The thing that stood out to me the most while watching my performance on webcam is that I would become nervous and mess with my hands a little bit. I also saw that I had looked at up without realizing I had done that.

I need to improve on my stance and confidence. You can tel my my actions that I was a little nervous even though I was the only one seeing the results so far.

I can use the video to improve by becoming more comfortable with pressure of being watched whether it's by a person or just a camera.

  10. one thing that i noticed while watching myself perform on the webcam was my speed was a little fast and i kept looking up as i was performing.
i feel like i am talking fast just to try to get the video done and over with but that isn't going to help my grade in the long run. and i kept looking up without realizing i was doing it and that was probably because i was a little nervous.
the webcam will help me improve performing as a overall person because i can see myself and fix the things that need to be fixed.

  11. 1 thing I would need to work on is when I am in front of any type of audience I rush things so I need to work on my speed. Also I need to look at my audience not to the sides. And lastly I just need to get comfortable with being in front of something.

  12. One thing that stood out to me while I recorded myself saying my speech is I often don't look at my point of focus (camera) when I should be, if it were live, my main focus should be the audience and since connecting with the audience that way is important, I wouldn't really do well. Something else I've noticed is I sometimes rush through the piece towards the end because my mind is telling me to get it over with.
